The Great Pumpkin Wall
challenge
Everyone was a winner at the first Great Pumpkin Wall, a benefit for Mission Children’s Hospital. Our client Gerber Village needed to raise the profile of this commercial park and also wanted to reach out into the community and develop a relationship with a local charity. So we created the area’s first pumpkin wall, combined it with a pledge drive for the children’s hospital, and celebrated the results with a family-friendly Halloween event.
strategy
We created a strategy that encompassed both fundraising and event promotion, reaching out to youth groups, local businesses, families, and supporters of the children’s hospital. Each participant received a free pumpkin, to be displayed on the giant Pumpkin Wall and entered in a pumpkin carving content, and we partnered with the hospital’s art therapists for after-school carving sessions. In our playful branding, we mixed traditional advertising and public relations with a heavy social media push.
results
With a strong turnout, solid fundraising, and a festive day of contests, games, food and fun, Asheville’s first Pumpkin Wall exceeded the client’s goals. We increased visibility of Gerber Village in the community, established a new community partnership, and turned over $4,000 to Mission Children’s Hospital.
